I have an MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults from Hamline University, an MS from the Naval Postgraduate School, and a BS from Villanova University. I’ve been a naval officer, adjunct professor, middle school teacher, fundraiser, local newsletter writer, and all around volunteer.
A long time member of SCBWI, I received an Honorable Mention in the Writer’s Digest Annual Competition and worked with Highlights/Calkins Creek editor Carolyn Yoder and Jane Yolen at Highlights Foundation Retreats and Workshops. I’ve been published in Blaze Magazine for Horse Crazy Kids.
Why I Write For Children
I was the middle child with all the perks and foibles that come with being the middle child. There were close to 100 baby photos of my older sister and an equal number of my younger sister. But there were only two baby pictures of me.
But that’s all in the past…really. It doesn’t bother me at all.
Okay, so maybe a part of me is stuck back in childhood, and that’s why I write primarily for children.
